Trust me, I’m Lying written by Ryan Holiday, the Director of Marketing at American Apparel, exposes the truth about the blogging platform and the manipulation opportunities that surrounds it. Major bloggers today have to pump out copious amounts of content in order to maintain a traffic quota. They fudge facts and footnotes to fulfill the demand for the newest juicy “news”. Ryan explains how he’s single handedly created buzz for a brand by manufacturing stunts that he’s spoon fed to blogs as breaking news. He calls it “Feeding the Monster” and admits that things will only get worse from here on as blogs get more desperate for content.
As someone who’s followed Americal Apparel’s edgy “marketing campaigns” I found this particularly interesting since I’ve been unknowing seduced by the marketing stunts that Ryan Holiday has personally created.
